2,010 or 20-10? That is the question.

I've made a semi-resolution to attempt to actually do this blog thing. No time like the first of the year to start. What to say? What to say?

I've been reading all manner of blogs lately. It's quite fascinating, actually, what people write about. I enjoy several food blogs that actually have recipes on them. I most likely won't try most of them but I like seeing what people do. The bakers are my favorites.

I'm not quite sure that I get the ones that take a picture of everything they eat during the day. I guess it's sort like the Weight Watchers points tracker. Some of them eat some oddball stuff, though. Just throw everything in a bowl. I do that sometimes but it's usually called soup. And they put some kind of butter on everything - almond, peanut, sunflower - everything but butter butter. I like that stuff but in a smoothie? With spinach? It's just a little strange.

I do notice that most of them are single or married without children. They seem to have lots of time to go to the gym or yoga during the day. Don't they have jobs? I hope they keep at it when jobs and kids are part of their lives. I want to see how they handle the reality that most of deal with every day. I know that I could do way more that I do but fit in a five mile run (this is just hypothetical) and a yoga class (that actually has happened) on a daily basis. Yeah, right!

So other than the foodie types, I read some who have totally different lives than my own and take beautiful pictures of said life. I read some who are into books or knitting. Some of them are just plain flakes - my kind of people. They make me laugh and I love them for it. They are mostly middle aged women who've been through it and survived with sense of humor intact.

So what do I want to write about? I have absolutely no idea. I used to love to write but got out of the habit. This will be an attempt at a relapse. We'll see. I also need to get more time in actually typing words. I've been doing numbers so long my fingers fail me with letters sometimes.

Tonight on the news they had a segment on what to call this year. 2,010 or 20-10? I've noticed that the media seems to be moving to 20-10. I read somewhere that this is the first time people have universally stuck the "thousand" in there. Would it have been the same partying like it's one thousand nine hundred ninety-nine? Their theory was that we got into using the thousand because of the movie "2001: A Space Odyssey". Makes sense to me. There wasn't a rule about using or not using the thousand in 1968. Feel free to read that as you will.

So now after ten years somebody decided that it 's time for the thousand to end. It's too long. Twenty-ten is more efficient. Uh-huh. Personally, I'm going with MMX.

My first blog of the year and hopefully not the last, January 1, MMX.
